Surf Culture in Hawaii is widely associated with the legendary Duke Kahanamoku, as he helped popularize the sport to mainland audiences.
When I was researching why surf culture is so special to Hawaii, I gravitated towards Duke Kahanamoku’s character and love for the sport. His carefree spirit and lifestyle inspired fun, loose-lined illustrations that are not concerned with perfection. The color palette for these Hydro Flasks was also inspired by colors of the ocean-view: bright aqua blue, sea-salt gray, and tropical green.

Today Duke’s statue can be visited at Waikiki Beach Park
