Foodland Pearl City
Foodland is the largest locally owned supermarket in Hawaii with over 30 locations throughout the state. Their newest opening in Pearl City was highly anticipated, promising an upgraded shopping and dining experience within the store.
With this grand opening, I proposed designs to the CEO for strip advertisements and a grocery ad page that would be featured in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper. I revolved my proposal around the history of Pearl City and the oyster pearl cladding found on the main cashier uniforms and throughout the store itself.
The polo I designed would be worn by main office employees, as they needed to distinguish themselves from regular staff members. It is inspired by ocean waves and abstract organic shapes of an oyster shell.

About Pearl City
Pearl City, particularly the Pearl Harbor area, was once abundant with pearl-bearing oysters and used to be known as Wai Momi (river of pearls). Ancient Hawaiians relied heavily on fishing and hunting for their livelihoods and used pearls by carving them into fishing hooks.
